sold a gunny bag of old books, and finally only one gunny bag could be bought. Recently, Outlook Weekly reported that the waste of teaching materials in China is amazing, with more than 2.9 billion copies retail each year, and a total of about 26billion primary and secondary school textbooks are finally recycled as waste products

serious waste of teaching materials is an old topic. Since more than a decade ago, the media and scholars have been paying attention to and discussing the problem of how to recycle teaching materials in China, and even calculated that if textbooks are recycled, 3million mu of wood, 528million tons of purified water and 6.335 million tons of coal can be saved, or 40000 hope primary schools can be built. Unfortunately, despite the annual discussion, the waste of textbooks has not been improved for many years

it has long been a public consensus to practice strict economy and oppose waste. From raising the air conditioner by one degree to ordering less at dinner, we continue to abandon the bad habits of luxury and waste in various fields. But when it comes to teaching materials, it is allowed to waste continuously, so that every graduation season, the waste station becomes a "teaching material mountain", and even the teaching tapes that should be "antiques" are bundled with teaching materials, which is still happening

the market price is weak. What is the difficulty of recycling textbooks? On the surface, it is the obstruction of the industrial chain that increases the cost of matching supply and demand, resulting in the high cost of recycling, or the serious damage of old textbooks, which makes it difficult for them to enter the classroom directly for the needs of disinfection and sanitation, or the fact that recycled textbooks cannot take notes at will, so that students can only buy notebooks and records, resulting in more waste such as the need to replace gaskets

some parents of students said, "students use books of major subjects every day, dipping in saliva and turning around. If the disinfection conditions can't keep up, our parents are simply unwilling to let their children use old textbooks." This is indeed a practical factor limiting the recycling of textbooks

but in fact, the most critical "obstacle" that hinders the recycling of textbooks is the "textbook business" of tens or even hundreds of billions every year. Selling every new book means more economic income, and recycling every page of old paper means higher management costs, so even if the waste is serious, old books can only be sold as waste, and freshmen must continue to buy new books. There is even a wonderful view that the tens of billions invested in new textbooks every year is not only the need to cultivate talents, but also the need to promote consumption

how ridiculous it is to expect waste to stimulate domestic demand! Reduce the consumption of trees and other aspects, and reduce the educational burden of families... The benefits of the recycling of teaching materials needless to say, it has long been very common abroad. In western countries, the average service life of a textbook is 4 to 5 years, while in China, it is only about half a year. At present, the free teaching materials of music, art, sports, health, science, information technology and so on in the compulsory education stage in some regions of China have been recycled to a certain extent, which shows that the recycling of teaching materials is theoretically feasible

to eliminate the waste of teaching materials is a necessary part of building an energy-saving society. However, the transformation of ideas and the existence of relevant interests make the recycling of teaching materials easy and difficult, which requires the joint efforts of students, parents, schools, publishers and education departments. It is expected that all parties will work together to formulate feasible plans to realize the recycling of textbooks, so that the old problem of textbook waste can be truly and thoroughly solved
